Aston Martin is revving up its presence in China this year, with the recent unveiling of its largest showroom in Shanghai and now, the announcement of a special Dragon88 variant for the Lunar Year of the Dragon.
Chinese consumers will no doubt be familiar with the auspicious connotations of the figure “8”, so the Dragon88 is meant to symbolize double luck. The Dragon88 edition will be made available in the DBS, Virage, V8 Vantage S models, and will be officially unveiled in April this year at the Beijing Auto Show.
Increasing its prestige will be the fact that only 88 Dragon editions will be made available for the Chinese market this year. Three exterior colors have been chosen to represent the richness of Chinese art and history: Amethyst Red, which represents wealth, peace and protection; Volcano red to represent the dragon’s fire; and Champagne Gold for wealth and fortune.
Meanwhile, the interior will feature bright metal work and piano black trim. The most striking interior feature is the embroidered headrest, inspired by Beijing’s famous Nine-Dragon Wall in Beihai Park. Built in 1756, it is one of just three of these famous decorative screen walls erected at Palaces and Gardens during the Qing Dynasty. The headrest design is based on the left-most dragon on the Beihai wall, its sinuous form rendered using four thread colours: Metallic Gold, Cream Truffle, Winter Wheat and Kestrel Tan.
